Fame comes before a fall...
When Paige Townsen gets picked to star in the movie adaptation of a blockbuster book series, her life changes practically overnight. Within a month she's thrown into a world of gossip, rumour and deceit. The only people who know what she's going through are her two male costars, but her feelings for them are getting complicated. Paige knows it's a mistake to fall in love on the set of a movie, but days of on-screen romance start to change her mind. The question is, can she keep what happens behind the scenes a secret when the world is watching her every move?
Review
I wasn't sure what to make of Famous In Love when I first started reading it, I thought there were only two directions this type of book could go in. It could either be a brilliantly done novel that I absolutely adored, or a book that I threw across the room in a tantrum from my dislike of the book. I'm actually incredibly proud to say that, although I was a little frustrated at times by Famous In Love, I also really enjoyed reading it. I wouldn't say that it was the most incredible book I have ever read, but It was pretty darn awesome!
Paige is our main protagonist in Famous In Love, and I have to admit I wasn't overly keen on her character at first. At first she really irritated me, and If it wasn't for the fact that the storyline was really interesting, I would have put the book down then and there. However, I am so glad I didn't, because Paige ended up turning into a brilliant and funny character, with lots of charm and depth to her that she didn't have at the beginning of the book.
I was also a little worried about the obvious love-triangle that was implied before I even started reading Famous In Love. I'm not usually fond of love-triangles at all, but I actually found myself really intrigued by this one! The way Paige feels about both the love interests in Famous In Love, is completely different. They both make her feel completely different things than the other, which is what made me like it so much! I was honestly a little anxious to find out who she'd choose over the two boys, as their relationships are so stark and different. I honestly didn't have a clue as to what would happen next in Paige's relationships - I just had to keep guessing and most of the time I was wrong! Rainer and Jordan, the love interests, were both brilliant and beautifully developed characters that are just really swoon-worthy! It wasn't until the end of the book that I finally decided on who I wanted to root for, my opinion kept changing with every passing chapter.
Overall, I thought Famous In Love was a fantastic book, and I definitely enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I was going to! The different relationships throughout this book are what really kept me interested in Famous In Love, as they just kept on developing and growing until the very end. Rebecca Serle's writing is witty, sweet and interesting and she creates characters that you just can't help but love. I believe Famous In Love really deserves the 4/5 star rating, and I honestly can't wait to find out what happens next in this series as I'm sure it's going to be brilliant!
Quotes
He has this look on his face like he wants to say something. I hold my breath. But he doesn't talk. He doesn't say anything. He kisses me.
My chest tightens and then swells as his lips come down on mine. My hands travel up his arms to grip his shoulders. He presses me to him so there is no space between us. He's kissing me with so much intention. It's gentle and soft and strong and sweet all at once. It's everything I have ever wanted. I can feel us getting soaked, feel the rain on our faces, but I don't care. - Page 166.
That's the thing about success. it changes a lot, but not everything. You still have bad hair days. Friendships that have fallen apart won't miraculously be fixed. And the people who didn't love you before still won't. Because the one thing success never changes, no matter what level you reach, is what has already happened. - Page 251.
That's life. It just happens, and with it a lot of stuff you can't take back. But the wonderful part is that often, the things that challenge you, that require you to use your whole self, are exactly those that are really worth it. - Page 291.
And see, that's the thing I didn't understand. The thing no one tells you. That just because you find love doesn't mean it's your to keep. Love never belongs to you. It belongs to the universe. To the same wind that blows the surfers across the waves and the current that carries you back to shore. You can't hold on to it because it's bigger than anything you could possibly grasp with your own bare hands. It's bigger than me or Rainer or Jordan. It's bigger than everything. - Page 308.
